Black River Peak |
The highest mountain of the island. 827m high and also one of the easiest hikes. Starting from the Plaines Champagnes
region, a trail will take us all the way up the peak We will take a break midway at a beautiful view point from where you will be able to catch a glimpse of the beautiful south west coast with L'ile aux Benitier floating in the turquoise blue lagoon. The trail is usually muddy because on
the heavy foliage around, specially if it has rained a few days before. The last part of the trail is very steep and some may find it scary, but we carry a piece of rope to help you up (no, we will not pull any one!). once on top the reward is worth the effort. a 360 degree view of the island will leave you breathless (well the hike up might contribute a little to that). You will then understand what we mean by 'being part of the landscape'. We will go down the same way, with the
possibility of ending the hike on the road to chamarel, depending on
transport arrangements and our timing and of course The black river peak is usually a 4 hr hike but if you are planning on taking the deviation to the chamarel ridge, add another hour.
