Machabee Trail

Enter one of the last remnants of out native forests of Mauritius.

Protected and supervised by the Forestry services, the Mauritius Wildlife Foundation and the National Parks and conservation unit, Black River national Park represents an additional interest  because of  the remnants of our native forest and endemic birds.

Trip summary

Starting off from Le Petrin (679 mts) in Plaine Champagne we will follow a scenic track through the Maccabée forest along which you may have the opportunity to discover the breathtaking views on the island with possibilities of snapshots .With some additional luck catch a glimpse of the famous Echo Parakeet or even the Pink Pigeon, both native birds of Mauritius, visible in the black River national park.

We will meet The Black River at an ancient dike and have lunch at a kiosk. We are then 45 minutes away from the trailhead.

We exit at the Lower Black River National Parks Forestry post in Black River where the vehicles will wait for us.
